Hilti Outperformer gives me the perfect combination of technical and management tasks. In my first year and a half, I’ve worked in a technical development role, where I feel I’ve really been able to contribute to the project, while of course learning loads. As an engineering graduate, this has been my comfort zone, if you like. After a very helpful discussion with my mentor I moved into a marketing role for my second assignment in the program. Next I’ll move into a management role, which might be supply chain or project management, something I’ll discuss with my mentor very soon.
Hilti’s HR team were really helpful with my move here. I didn’t have time to visit beforehand or to look for accommodation. So I told them I was concerned about settling in and that I wanted to live in a shared apartment, and they put me in touch with all the right people. Even if you don’t find a place to live before joining Hilti, they’ll put you up in a hotel for a month, so you’re always well looked after.
I chose to join Hilti because a friend recommended them to me, telling me about their great people and fantastic working culture. In just two years with the company, I’ve already been promoted.
From day one, you can see that this is a company like nowhere else. Everyone is willing to give you help and support, whether it’s day-to-day stuff or long-term career advice. Everyone – including me – is fully commited to the Hilti ethos.
I feel the opportunities are endless here and it’s a real career path, not just a job. I can really go to work with a smile on my face and not look at my watch like you do in other jobs.
I can honestly say that my experience has been second to none. I’ve never looked back.
When I joined Hilti 15 months ago, my university friends were all off to big renowned firms in manufacturing and consultancy. They thought I was crazy. Construction industry? Building sites? Drilling machines? That was very alien to me coming from university.
I started with Hilti as an account manager in Hamburg. I was responsible for a range of small to medium-sized customers, from government administrations to manufacturing companies. My job was to understand their needs in their daily business and projects and provide technical advice and solutions via the vast portfolio of products, software and services that Hilti is offering. This field experience was the best preparation for my next roles in marketing – as I learned first-hand how our customers think and what challenges they face.
After that I had the chance to do various projects in Employer Branding, Product Management and even an experience with Hilti Latin America – where I got to know the Hilti business on the other side of the globe (fascinatingly, the business model is very similar all over the world but just scaled to the local needs).
Today I am the product manager for Chemical anchors in Central Europe and work closely with development and the markets to close remaining product gaps and offer our customers the next level of system solutions to make their work easier, safer and more productive. For this I am dealing with many colleagues throughout a variety of departments, which makes this work extremely rich and interesting. Today I am happy and proud that I had the guts to jump into the water.
